The Simon Foundation is a very large, 36,000 square foot facility, housing up to 130+ dogs and 50 cats at any given time. We are different from other shelters because we maintain a closed dog kennel. This means only designated employees and volunteers have access to the kennel. We do not allow the public to walk along the exterior of the kennels without a staff escort. Our policy is put in place for the safety of our visitors, but mainly to reduce the stress imposed on our dogs. Having strangers walking up and down past their kennels can be not only stressful but dangerous.
Anyone interested in working with The Simon Foundation animals will be required to attend an initial Orientation session and a shelter training class
to become familiar with Simon Foundation protocols and procedures, proper handling of dogs and cats, and other important information before being allowed access to our animals.
All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to work at our facility. However, if you are under the age of 18, there are still many ways you can support our cause. You can help us coordinate and run fund raising events, organize donation drives through your school or community groups, and participate in specially planned junior events that we will be organizing throughout the year.
